Wonderland
By Hector Mata
Introduction
There is a
world somewhere far away, at a place far beyond our imaginations. This place is
filled with things similar to our world and some very different. If I were to
describe it, I would say that it is a planet earth filled with our fantasies
and dreams. This planet is called Wonderland. It is a placed filled with great
and powerful magic. But that´s not all, it also contains science, emotions,
elements and other things that make it such a wonderful place. Humans also
inhabit this world, along with animals, gods and goddesses, mysterious
creatures and millions of other living things. Although, The humans in this world are not
the dominate race and have not advanced as much as they have now a days in our
world.
There are
several lands and a great big ocean, which are divided into different countries
run by humans and their mystical companions. But, there will be more detail
about it later on, right now this story is about to unfold. We will begin on
earth …
Chapter
One: Wilson
This story
begins on our planet earth. It starts on one of the most famous ships in the
world around the 1900´s in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. A young lad by the
name of Luigi was peacefully enjoying his cruise to the famous city of New
York. He was a very active young man, specialized in the ways of the sword and
known for his peaceful personality. He had a bright blonde white hair that went
along with astonishing dark green eyes.
Luigi stood
at the edge of the boat, watching the amazing waves crashing against the mighty
ship in that starry night. He wished for an adventure, a great story to tell
the world about. From far away he looked like a simple man, just like his jeans
and leather brown jacket. But, closely you could see a burning fire in his
eyes, that could inspire any man into war.
The captain
of the boat walked up next to Luigi with a cigar in his mouth, proud to be the
captain of the ship that even god could not sink.
“If you are
looking for mermaids son, you won´t find them here. Try the ball room.” The
captain said, scratching his enormous white beard.
“I´m afraid
I am too poor to enter the ballroom sir and I prefer a girl with a fiery
personality then those spoiled rich girls.” Luigi responded as he starred at
the dark sky before them.
The captain burst into
laughter and wished the young man good night as he went back to guide his
powerful ship. Luigi kept looking at the stars, wishing that something
incredible would happen in his life. He was too caught up in his thoughts that
he did not notice the big commotion going on behind him. Marines running around
everywhere, they seemed worried and afraid. Whatever their problem was, it was
not enough to bring Luigi back to earth.
The sky seemed to be endless,
same as the ocean. But, the great scenery was interrupted by something. Into
Luigi´s view came a big white chunk of ice, covering the sky with its mighty
height. It was without a doubt an iceberg. Luigi realized that he was to close,
the ship was to close. Before he could react, the great impact of the ship
smashing the side of the ice mountain, caused him to fall to the ground. He
looked up only to see a giant chunk of the iceberg heading straight to his
face. Luigi blacked out.
…
Slowly, Luigi began to feel
his body react. He could feel himself in the waves, gliding along with them.
The water was cool and the sun was hot on his face. He began to open his eyes,
only to discover an endless light blue sky before him. Before he finished
reacting, he felt his body slowly settle on soft, warm, wet sand. He sat up,
the waves going up to his waist and the son warming his face. There was pain
all over him, his muscles and bones aching as he began to stand up. The last
thing he remembered was the ship hitting the iceberg. Now, he looked around
only to find a green tropical jungle behind him. Luigi was confused, since his
ship was nowhere near any tropical places. He began to walk along the shore,
trying to convince himself that this was a dream. He kept walking until his
cloths had fully dried out and his throat grew thirsty.
Up ahead he noticed a small
shack and it appeared there was movement inside it. Luigi got close enough and
began to call out for help. A man came out, he had worn out clothes and blonde
hair and beard. He was dirty and you could see tanned marks all over him. The
stranger squinted his eyes as he looked at Luigi. Luigi got closer, looking
desperate for help. The stranger rushed into his hut and came out with half a
coconut. He hurried over to Luigi and told him to drink. Luigi did not hesitate
and began to drink out of the coconut as the stranger helped him over to his
shack.
“I never expected to see
anybody here.” The strange man said as he helped Luigi sit on what seemed to be
a chair made out of palm trees. “It´s been ten long years since I last saw another
human.” The stranger said with a big smile on his face and watery eyes. “My
name is Wilson, what is yours?”
“ I am Luigi.” He replied
weakly, “I´m sorry did you say you have not seen anyone else for ten years?”
“That´s right! I arrived after
an airplane crash.” Wilson said as he drifted away into his memories, “To be
honest I have no idea where I am and I have tried to escape but the waves make
it difficult.”
“Airplane? And you mentioned
you tried to escape, so that must mean this is an island?” Luigi replied as he
starred out a small window into the blue sky.
“Oh yes this is an island. I
actually think I have figured out how to escape from here, but I only managed
to make one raft. But, let´s talk about that later. You my friend, need some
food and water!” Wilson replied. He was very excited to have a visitor.
Wilson gave plenty of water
and food to Luigi. It was not long before Luigi was fully rested and was
feeling a lot better. The night had settled in and both of them sat around a
fire, which had two fish set up above it, cooking them.
“So Wilson, how do we get out
of here?” Luigi asked waiting to hear Wilson´s plan.
“Tomorrow for some reason, the
waves are a lot more calm then the rest of the year. So, I have prepared a
small raft to leave this island and sail back to society.” Wilson answered with
confidence.
“Great! So let´s get ready!”
Luigi got up with excitement.
“There is one problem though…
The raft is only big enough for one person.” Wilson said sadly and watched
Luigi´s excitement shut down. “But…” Wilson continued, “I have no need to leave
this place since I have settled here and there is no guarantee that you will
make it somewhere safe. So, if you wish to risk your life in that big ocean, go
ahead.”
Luigi felt bad leaving Wilson,
but the chance of facing the powerful sea and going to an unknown land made
Luigi´s blood boil with excitement. That night while they ate, Wilson explained
how to use the raft and how to fish in the ocean. Wilson tried to convince
Luigi to stay, for he did not want to be alone again. But, Luigi did not want
to spend ten years here and grow a beard like Wilson. The rest of the night was
spent joking and talking until they fell asleep.
The sun quickly rose and woke
up Luigi and Wilson. The raft was ready to depart and like Wilson said, the
waves were a lot calmer. Luigi asked Wilson if he was going to be alright, to
which Wilson replied, “oh no worries my friend, I have Robbison with me.” Luigi
thought that was a weird reply since as far as he knew, they were the only two
humans here.
Luigi got on the raft as he
promised Wilson he would return for him. Wilson with a shine in his eyes of joy
began to push the raft into the waves and wished Luigi good luck. Wilson
watched as Luigi began to disappear into the horizon as we escaped the island´s
reef and reached the deep ocean.
Luigi could not help but to
feel sorry for Wilson, therefore he promised himself that one day he will
return for him. Luigi floated along the powerful waves as he looked up, only to
see dark clouds beginning to gather. This was not going to be an easy trip.
Chapter two: Kelan Village
The waves began to rise up and
the clouds began to grow bigger. Luigi began to hate the ocean as it looks like
it was out to get him. He hanged on to the raft as the waves tried to throw
him over. Lightning and thunder began to cross the dark skies and rain fell
heavily. Luigi was soaking wet in a few seconds and his supplies had fallen of
the raft. He grabbed on to the edge of the raft as hard as he could, while the
salty water tasted terrible as it splashed into his mouth.
One big wave knocked Luigi
over on to his back. He laid there starring up at the storm above him. It
looked like this was his end. He screamed at the skies, cursing them for giving
him such an awful fate. Then, out of the corner of his eye he saw something
huge coming up. Luigi stood and faced the giant wave that was forming before
him. The giant wave covered the dark clouds and began to wrap around the raft.
Luigi stood there helpless as the enormous wave crashed on him.
…
Luigi felt the hot sand under
him and the burning sun on his face. He was dry and hurting all over. There was
a weird sound, sort of like an animal. He opened his eyes and in between the
bright light of the sun he could see a figure, which seemed to be sniffing him.
His eyes adjusted to reveal a small monkey looking at him.
Luigi sat up and checked his
surroundings. He was in a small beach that had giant trees around it. The
monkey began to jump happily as he watched Luigi began to get up. The monkey
ran into the trees and returned with a banana, which he handed over to Luigi.
Luigi thanked the monkey as he
quickly began to eat. The monkey got up on top of Luigi´s shoulder and both of
them began to walk into the jungle. Luigi needed to find out where he was and
maybe there were people that could help him. It was not long before they
reached a clearing where the trees had been cut and there was only a long grass
field before them. At the other side was what looked like a giant gate made of
wood and animal bones.
Luigi began to run quickly
towards the gate, this was an obvious sign of civilization. He reached it and
he could see a whole village on the other side of it. Their houses were made of
stones and hay. The people wondering around did not wear shoes and had very
little clothes, with a feather on their heads. Luigi reached the gate; he was
hungry and tired because of all he had been through. There was a guard standing
there, starring at Luigi with a confused look. The guard had a long lance and a
brown skirt made of some sort of animal. He pointed his lance at Luigi and
asked who he was. Luigi was shocked to be able to understand him, but he had
other things to worry about. Luigi introduced himself and explained that he had
been in a storm and was washed ashore. The guard placed his lance down and told
Luigi to follow him. They began to walk into the village and the local natives
stared at Luigi weirdly. Behind the village you could see a giant mountain.
They reached a house which was
bigger than the rest and had giant mammoth like tusks in the entrance. They
walked inside and the hut was decorated with weapons and animal like skins. At
the very end of the room a man sat on a big wooden chair. He had white hair
bundled up in a ponytail and had a long white beard. He had a long white skirt
and some sliver rings around his ankles. A native girl stood next to him. She
had a skin much whiter than the rest of the natives and her hair went down to
her waist. She wore a red top and skirt with weird designs and also had silver
rings on her ankles.
The guard guided Luigi to the
man with the white hair and left. The man stood up and said “Welcome strange
traveler. I am the leader here in Kelan Village. Next to me stands my daughter
Roca. What is your name?”
Luigi cleared his throat and
answered “I am Luigi. I arrived here because a storm washed me up to a shore
nearby.”
“I see. And where do you come
from?”
“I have never had a place to
call home, but I was on my way to New York.”
“New York? Why I have no idea
where that is, Do you Roca?” The leader turned to his daughter but she shacked
her head no.
“Excuse me, what continent am
I on?” Luigi asked the leader.
“Why this place is known as
South Island. Only Kelan and Wellin Village inhabit this grand island.”
Luigi began to think to
himself as he tried to figure out where he was.
“Luigi, may I ask where did
you get those weird clothes?” Roca asked.
“I bought them in England.”
Luigi answered, but they did not seem to understand. “By any chance do you have
a telephone? Or any way to communicate outside this island?”
“We do not have this telephone
you speak of and our communication only goes to the island next to ours, North
Island. But the people there are evil.” The leader answered.
“What do you mean by evil?”
“They take our people away
saying we are demons and must be purified. We were peaceful until they arrived
out of nowhere. They seem more advanced than us but anybody who takes away
other people and does what they want with them are more savage than we are.” The
leader says as he and Roca look sadly at the floor.
“Well if they are advanced
then maybe I should head over there. Maybe they have access to a phone.” Luigi
said.
The leader stood up and faced
him, “If you venture into these islands just like that you will certainly die.
You seem a total stranger to these parts and I am sure you do not even have
control of your element.”
“My element?” Luigi asked.
“I knew it. Since I saw you I
noticed your ki was a lot more different than the rest of the creatures I have
ever seen. Every living thing in this world has one of the four elements: Fire,
Water, Earth and Wind. Just by looking at you I can easily tell you are of the
water element.”
“Look I am just a normal human
being that wants to go home.” Luigi replied, he had begun to feel
uncomfortable.
“You will need the power of
your element in order to survive here. If you want to go home I suggest you at
least learn to control it.”
Seeing that he had no other
choice, Luigi asked what was it that he needed to do.
“First, you must prove you are
worthy to learn this abilities and that is why your quest is to bring me a
scroll that is hidden deep in the mountain behind the village.” The leader
grabbed one the swords hanging on his wall and handed it over to Luigi. As soon
as Luigi grabbed it, he felt a strange energy flow through his body. The leader
asked Roca to accompany Luigi and to make sure he didn´t die. With this, both
of them set of towards the mountain.
